OBC Announces Promotions

OBC kicked the year off by honoring the hard work of four staff members, who will each take on new titles.

Kyl Caragol is Director of Development. Gifted at building meaningful relationships, Kyl has been an incredibly effective fundraiser since beginning with OBC in May 2022. Out Boulder County has seen tremendous growth over the last year, increasing our staff, programming and reach, which couldn’t happen without Kyl’s dedication and expertise. Our three-year, $6 million Capital Campaign has already raised $3.35 million, allowing OBC staff to move into spacious new digs at the Equality Center and install a much-needed elevator to make our home accessible to all.

“Working with this incredible team and our amazing and generous supporters has completely changed my life,” Kyl says. “People often tell me they couldn't (or wouldn't want to) do what I do — ask people for money. But my goal isn't to raise money. My goal, every day, is to ensure our entire community feels affirmed, empowered, respected, and safe. My job is to be grateful, and I truly am.”

Michal Duffy is Director of Strategic Initiatives. This title change is a reflection of the broad array of leadership responsibilities Michal has taken on since starting with OBC in 2017. Their long tenure with OBC has given Michal a wealth of institutional knowledge and experience structuring different programs. With OBC, Michal provides LGBTQ+ trainings for local, national, and international organizations. They lead research initiatives, are involved in advocacy and communications, and have supported program development.

This year, Michal will get the opportunity to expand their educational outreach work with the help of a yet-to-be-hired Education Coordinator, who they will supervise.

“I feel my personal career growth and OBC's organizational growth have been mutually supportive experiences in a really interesting and unexpected way,” Michal says. “I have grown and developed a lot, and I’ve in turn been able to contribute to OBC's growth. I find it incredibly meaningful to be a part of an organization that values queer development on both personal and community levels. Looking forward, I am excited to take on projects that support both the internal functions and the community-serving mission of our growing organization."

Ruby Lopez is QTPOC Programming and Support Manager. Since coming onboard in March 2022, Ruby has built a QTPOC program that clearly represents the mission and values of Out Boulder County, and she continues to promote queer and trans joy through her creative approach to events and activities, such as the ongoing Salsa con Orgullo dance party and the upcoming MLK Mixed Media Art Workshop

Ruby’s promotion marks the first time OBC has someone at the manager level focused on the programming portfolio.

Ruby says she is "excited to expand the QTPOC program by reaching new areas of Colorado where QTPOC spaces for adults are lacking and desired!"

Juan Moreno is OBC’s Director of Operations. In nearly a decade working for OBC, Juan has given of himself freely and generously to the community and organization. Since coming on board in 2016, Juan has planned all major events, including Boulder Pride Week, Longmont Pride Week, the GAYLA, the Pool Party, and other events. Juan has also cultivated relationships with our corporate donors, and has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars for the organization. He is one of OBC’s longest serving staff members.

"OBC has been a continuously growing family for this community, and I look forward to continuing to support that growth in my new role," Juan says.
